Lenovo has taken no time to launch its Moto G5 Plus in the Indian market. With the price starting from Rs 14,999, the Moto G5 Plus is available in 3/4GB RAM variants, both offering 32GB expandable storage. Motorola is launching the Moto G5 and G5 Plus smartphones in India. Unveiled last month at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017 Barcelona, the two new smartphones will be succeeding the Moto G4, G4 Plus and G4 Play smartphones. The Moto G5 Plus will be available exclusively on Flipkart.com.
A major difference between the Moto G5 and G5 Plus is the screen size. The Moto G5 has a 5-inch full HD display, while the Moto G5 Plus offers a slightly bigger 5.2-inch full-HD screen. There is no 5.5-inch display variant this time, but we can’t rule out the possibility of a third Moto G Plus being launched afterwards, considering the fact that the three Moto G4 phones were released separately. The Moto G5 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core chip, while the Moto G5 Plus runs on a more powerful Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. The two phones will be available in multiple variants based on the RAM size and internal storage. The minimum storage capacity in the Moto G will be 16GB and 2GB RAM, while the Moto G5 Plus will start with 16GB storage and 3GB RAM. The battery size also varies, but slightly. The Moto G5 has a 2,800mAh battery and the G5 Plus is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.
The new-look fingerprint scanner is more user-friendly than the one you got on the Moto G4 Plus last year. Unlocking the device isn’t an issue anymore. The G5 Plus gets a 12-megapixel camera with f/1.7 aperture, the same that you got with the Samsung Galaxy S7. However, we’ll quickly point out that the sensor model on the G5 Plus doesn’t match up to the one on Galaxy S7.Powered by 3000mAh battery, the Moto G5 Plus supports turbo-charging, which means you don’t have to plug in the phone for long hours. This ensures the 1000mAh battery size difference between the G5 Plus and Redmi Note 4 doesn’t haunt buyers.
Compared to others in this price bracket, we found the display quality of the Moto G5 Plus lacking sharpness. This results in the images clicked, videos that you see looking dull to the naked eye. For this price, Moto has opted for battery efficiency, but then compromised on a display, that might be full-HD resolution, but doesn’t look like one.
Both the variants of Moto G5 Plus offer 32GB storage. While you can expand it up to 128GB, but still many consumers these days would like a 64GB option. Xiaomi has one, so does Honor.
So far, we know US and European prices for the Moto G5 Plus. At MWC, the company announced the smartphone’s 2GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant will be priced at $229 (roughly Rs. 15,300), while the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant will be priced at EUR 279 (roughly Rs. 19,700). Moto in some regions had unveiled a 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant, but pricing for that SKU is not clear. For now, it’s also uncertain just which SKUs Lenovo will bring to a price sensitive market like India. It may very well introduce a 16GB inbuilt storage variant in the country, and forego the 2GB RAM variant entirely.
